I am very excited to say that I now have a new blog. Here is the link: www.sallybrewer.com/blog. I love the new layout and how I can post bigger pictures. Please stop by and let me know what you think. I just posted some more images from my Great Falls, VA family session. It has all my old posts from this blog too. Inspiration

I like a little inspiration for how to display my photographs. It is one reason why I love the Pottery Barn catalog and all the design blogs cropping up on the internet (this is one of my favorites). Now I found a product created for photograph layouts and I am excited to offer my clients a little inspiration for displaying their images with this new inspiration guide. It has different layouts for wall and shelf displays and includes the corresponding picture sizes to make designing a snap. Enjoy! --Sally

Junior League of Washington

Last night I had the pleasure of heading over to the Junior League of Washington's headquarters to take some images for the committee planning the annual Holiday Shops event held every November in DC. This is the 50th anniversary of the event and I was honored to help them out. Mark your calendars now for the weekend of November 21-23 to experience one of DC's favorite holiday shopping events! Here are a few images from last night. Enjoy! --Sally

I wanted to post this image because I thought it captured the fun we had last night. The women on the committee were so warm and friendly. I had such a good time!

Product Feature | Photo Storyboard

I wanted to share this photo storyboard. I think it is a great way to use sixteen of your favorite images to tell a story. You can also use colors and text in the squares to add some variety to your images. Print this one large! This one is going to go up in the nursery. I can't wait to see it on the wall.

I've got a couple of sessions to blog this week that I'm really excited about. I hope you had a good weekend. I had a full (but fun!) weekend. On Saturday morning I had a family session at Ft. Ward Park. The weather was beautiful and I can't wait to share those images. Sunday I assisted Andrea Jacobson at Tito and Courtney's wedding. They had a beautiful reception at the Kennedy Center so keep an eye out on the Jana Curio Photography blog for images from that event. --Sally

Weekend

I had a wonderfully busy weekend. Saturday I spent the day assisting Andrea at a wedding in DC that had the most wonderful ceremony music I have ever heard. They had a 20 person choir performing and the bride walked down the aisle to a beautiful rendition of "Amazing Grace". It was incredibly moving and beautiful. It was hard not to get caught up in the emotions of the day. On Sunday I had a whirlwind day in NYC. I joined Heather Forbes for some family shoots in Central Park and one session in Tribeca. I can't wait to share the images after I'm done editing! I heard it was rainy all day here in DC, but we had sunshine and cool breezes and cute kiddos. It was such a fun and busy day. Here is a little teaser of a quick shot I took of Heather and her husband Steve. After the shoots he met up with us for drinks before I caught my train home. Heather, thanks for a wonderful day in New York! --Sally

Sunday in the Park

This weekend I'm going to be taking a day trip up to NYC on Sunday. I'll be assisting Heather Forbes on a day of family sessions in Central Park. I'm really looking forward to working with Heather. We met at the Love Affair Workshop. Heather is an amazing baby photographer based out of San Francisco but also does sessions in NYC. She is currently working on her book about taking gorgeous pictures of your baby that will be published soon. She also has had work published in a number of print publications including Cookie and Kiwi. Check out her work here. I'm looking forward to spending the day in NYC. See you soon Heather! --Sally

Heirloom Monograms

I'm not a Southerner by birth, but I did marry a Southerner so I'm guessing that's why I can't get enough of southern accents, monogramming, and smocked dresses on little girls. I find monogrammed kids' outfits, towels, and linens to be oh-so charming. I like the hint of a personal touch on my belongings. My friend Jamie has been my go-to monogramming person since she started her business. Her blog has some great gift ideas for baby showers, weddings, and teachers. This is one Southernism I embrace happily. Sweet tea on the other hand is a whole other story. Skip the sugar for me!

Freshening things up

I don't know if it is the approaching warm weather of spring or just a desire for a little change, but I've been freshening things up around my website. I've got just a few more little tweaks and I hope to be done with all the galleries by the end of the week. I'm really happy with the changes. I'd love to hear what you think. Enjoy! --Sally

Real Simple article on professional photography of children

This article from Real Simple's Simply Stated blog features some thoughts on having professional portraits of your children taken periodically throughout their lives. Being a professional photographer myself I take tons of photos of my own kiddos, but I still hire other photographers to document my family through their eyes. They will get an artistic perspective that will be different from the one I see, and it also means that I will be in those photographs too. So many times I hear from moms that they are in so few of their children's photos because they are the ones snapping the photos. Having a family session remedies that. Enjoy the article! --Sally

My business card

Here is my new business card (front & back). I love it and can't wait to see the hard copy, which should be arriving any day now. We're also working on a version with color photos. I hope you have fun Fat Tuesday plans. My tradition is to take the night off and head out to a restaurant to fully indulge! --Sally

My new logo

After a few months of tweaking and getting everything just right, here is my new logo. I can't say enough good things about my wonderful designer, Cori Canady. She really worked with me to get everything just right and really understood the look and feel of my work and how to incorporate that into my new logo. I'm waiting for my new business cards to arrive and have updated the logo on my website and will be refreshing the blog header soon among a few other things that are still under wraps. Thank you Cori for everything! --Sally

P.S. Cori is about to launch her design business website this summer, until then she can be reached at coricanady@comcast.net.

DC Urban Moms List

When I was pregnant with my first child my friend and co-worker told me about DC Urban Moms. Back then it was just a mailing list (a huge one!) covering various topics including nannies, playgroups, parenting styles, local doctors and much more. Now it has grown into more than just the email list. They have forums, mailing lists, links to events and much more. If you are a parent in the Washington, DC area I highly recommend you check out this resource. Enjoy! --Sally
