DC Urban Moms List

When I was pregnant with my first child my friend and co-worker told me about DC Urban Moms. Back then it was just a mailing list (a huge one!) covering various topics including nannies, playgroups, parenting styles, local doctors and much more. Now it has grown into more than just the email list. They have forums, mailing lists, links to events and much more. If you are a parent in the Washington, DC area I highly recommend you check out this resource. Enjoy! --Sally

Lead in Keys

One of my kids' favorite toys is now off-limits due to potential lead content. I've had some concerns about them playing with and chewing on keys and now they are confirmed. I wanted to share this leaflet that a mom posted on a parenting listserv.

Inspiration

One of my New Year's resolutions is to get my photos organized. Now to help me stay motivated and inspired I bought Photos Syle Recipes from Pottery Barn. I've always admired their treatment of photographs and how they incorporate them into their rooms. This book has some unique ways of displaying photos and gives me some new ideas on how to display all those photos I've got lying around. Also, it is on special for $9.95. Enjoy! --Sally

Large Family Shoot

Early in the morning on Christmas Eve I had the pleasure of photographing four generations of this family. There were so many special images that it was hard to narrow them down for this blog. Here are some of my favorites. Enjoy! --Sally

One side of the family....

I love the contrast of this image.

Charming her great-grandparents...

We had gathered everyone together for a large group shot, but I had to zero in on this interaction between these two. Her great-grandfather had some wisdom to bestow.

Taking a break with mom...

I love the interaction of the siblings in this shot. They had been teasing each other all morning long.

South Mountain Creamery

We've just started getting milk delivered from South Mountain Creamery, a local dairy farm in Maryland. This past weekend we decided to take a family trip to visit the farm so our kiddos could see where our milk comes from. The hours for visiting and viewing the milking are listed on their site. They also have a shop onsite where you can purchase their products. Our favorites so far are the milk (of course!) and the sugar cookie dough. Yum! Thanks to my friend Kelley for telling us about them! Enjoy! --Sally

Our milk is delivered in these glass bottles, which we return to them and are reused. Love them!

Moo.

All lined up for the milking to begin.

In the calf barn (a big hit with my little ones).

Brrrrr.....

It was a cold, cold morning in December when I met this family for a photo session. They were so wonderful to work with and were so great about shooting in the cold weather. Their son was so good through it all and gave me some gorgeous baby grins. It was the day after our first big snowfall in the DC area so we managed to get a few festive shots with snow and it made being out in the cold worth it. Here are some of my favorite shots from the session. Thanks for a fun morning in Old Town! --Sally

He just looks so warm and cozy all bundled up.

Love that grin!
...and this one too! So sweet.

Happy New Year

I can't believe it is 2008 already! I am really looking forward to seeing what this year brings. I hope you had a blessed holiday. I really enjoyed all the food and festivities associated with this time of year. Maybe a little too much since I've neglected my blog last month. One of my resolutions is to blog more consistently so I'll be catching up soon. In the meantime, here is one of my favorite photos from a family session I did on Christmas Eve morning. Enjoy! --Sally
