These images are from my third day at the workshop. Bald Head Island had some beautiful locations and these were taken around the lighthouse area. Enjoy! --Sally
This image was shot with off-camera lighting in full sunlight with the model's head lined up to directly block the sun. It is called "Day/Night" and I think it creates quite a dramatic image.
These are some shots I got at our first shoot on Day 1 of the workshop. All the models were so great to work with and I really enjoyed the shooting in the locations chosen for the day. Enjoy! --Sally
I love the warm light in this shot. I loved working with this model. She had the best red shoes (see below).
This was shot using a video light in the bathroom. Using the same video light we went into the kitchen and shot the model in a bread cart creating beautiful and dramatic shadows. The video light battery was dying and I grabbed this shot just before it went out completely.
Here are a few more images of Bald Head Island. These were taken on our final full day on the island. It was a rainy, gray day so the colors were so moody. These images were shot at Captain Charlie's cabins. They were the original cabins on the island named after the lighthouse keeper. They were so charming. Supposedly J. Crew and Land's End shoots some of their catalog work on the island and this is where the crew and models stay. Shannon Montez (seated below) was one of the lucky ones who stayed in this cabin. (Isn't this island gorgeous?)
This is an image I took of Shannon that I love. This is Karyn Kayle, a fellow DC photographer that I finally met in person at the workshop.
We all had the chance to experience life on the other side of the camera at the workshop last week. Kelly Moore and Lauren Clark took the images below using some really cool off-camera lighting techniques. More Love Affair images to come....
Just a few quick photos from the first day here at Love Affair Workshop.

These robes were left on each of the attendees beds to "make our stay warm and cozy." The ladies have really thought of so many details and I can tell they have put so much time and effort into this conference. I can't wait to see what else is in store. --Sally
Today I'm getting ready to leave for my trip to North Carolina for the Love Affair Workshop for women. I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to this experience. Cell phone service and internet access will be spotty so I'm not sure if I'll be able to blog until I get back. I will try to check voicemails when I can. Have a great week! --Sally
We've been hit hard with the flu at our house and are finally on the mend. I hope this Valentine's Day finds you well and enjoying time with your loved ones. Go eat some chocolate and enjoy the day! --Sally
Here is my new business card (front & back). I love it and can't wait to see the hard copy, which should be arriving any day now. We're also working on a version with color photos. I hope you have fun Fat Tuesday plans. My tradition is to take the night off and head out to a restaurant to fully indulge! --Sally
After a few months of tweaking and getting everything just right, here is my new logo. I can't say enough good things about my wonderful designer, Cori Canady. She really worked with me to get everything just right and really understood the look and feel of my work and how to incorporate that into my new logo. I'm waiting for my new business cards to arrive and have updated the logo on my website and will be refreshing the blog header soon among a few other things that are still under wraps. Thank you Cori for everything! --Sally
P.S. Cori is about to launch her design business website this summer, until then she can be reached at coricanady@comcast.net.
This month I am going to be attending Love Affair 2008, a five-day intensive photography workshop for women in North Carolina. I am really looking forward learning some new techniques and focusing on my work. I haven't had a full week devoted solely to photography since art school so I am really looking forward to this time. They asked all the participants to fill out a questionnaire so we can get to know each other before we arrive. You can view mine here. Happy Monday! --Sally
In an effort to get more vegetables into my kiddos I ran across this recipe from Martha Stewart Everyday Food. I'm definitely putting this one into our meal plan for February. Enjoy! --Sally
