Technically it is not my camera, but I had one just like it. My sister found this one on eBay for my kiddos. It is in great condition and brought back a lot of fun memories. I've enjoyed all the cheesey zoo "pictures" on it. Very 1970s. Now Fisher Price makes the Kid Tough Digital camera that takes real pictures. We've got one in pink and it does take a beating. Somehow it is just not quite the same. Thanks for reminiscing with me. --Sally
The Picture Perfect Wall Company sells sets of frames and wall charts for hanging making it so easy to put up a wall series of photos. I so wanna get some of them!
I always like to do newborn sessions sometime during the first two weeks of life. This is a newborn session with the same family from my birth session post. I met them at their home on a gray, cold rainy morning. We snuck out for a few shots bundled up under umbrellas, but most of the photos were taken inside where it was warm and cozy. Thanks for a wonderful morning! Enjoy! --Sally
Big brother and his new baby sister... ...and Gram. Three generations Hanging out on Mom and Dad's bed. Baby's first Tiffany! This is her present from Dad and her big brother. Lucky girl! A break in the rain... I love newborn skin. It is so soft and wrinkly. Sweet, sleepy baby.
For those of you that are planning weddings, I've just signed on to be a wedding photographer for Jana Curcio Photography in DC. They are a company of amazing photojournalists and fine art photographers and I am honored to be able to work with them. They have been featured in The Knot and were selected in TheWashingtonian's Best of Weddings for the last five years. This will be just weddings and I'll still be doing my lifestyle portraiture work through my company, Sally Brewer Photography.
These images are from a birth session I did recently. It was such a pleasure to share in this experience and be able to document all the emotions of the day. It is such a special time for the family and I was honored to be a part of it. Here are some of my favorites. Enjoy! --Sally
Dad squeezing a little work in... Progress... Working through a contraction... Getting close... She is finally here! She was not real thrilled about having her head measured... Dad is making "the calls".... Dad holding her for the first time. Grandma gets her turn. Love the intimacy of this image...probably one of my favorite mom and baby shots.
When I was pregnant with my first child my friend and co-worker told me about DC Urban Moms. Back then it was just a mailing list (a huge one!) covering various topics including nannies, playgroups, parenting styles, local doctors and much more. Now it has grown into more than just the email list. They have forums, mailing lists, links to events and much more. If you are a parent in the Washington, DC area I highly recommend you check out this resource. Enjoy! --Sally
One of my kids' favorite toys is now off-limits due to potential lead content. I've had some concerns about them playing with and chewing on keys and now they are confirmed. I wanted to share this leaflet that a mom posted on a parenting listserv.
One of my New Year's resolutions is to get my photos organized. Now to help me stay motivated and inspired I bought Photos Syle Recipes from Pottery Barn. I've always admired their treatment of photographs and how they incorporate them into their rooms. This book has some unique ways of displaying photos and gives me some new ideas on how to display all those photos I've got lying around. Also, it is on special for $9.95. Enjoy! --Sally
Early in the morning on Christmas Eve I had the pleasure of photographing four generations of this family. There were so many special images that it was hard to narrow them down for this blog. Here are some of my favorites. Enjoy! --Sally
One side of the family.... I love the contrast of this image. Charming her great-grandparents...
We had gathered everyone together for a large group shot, but I had to zero in on this interaction between these two. Her great-grandfather had some wisdom to bestow. Taking a break with mom... I love the interaction of the siblings in this shot. They had been teasing each other all morning long.
